Works well on Macbook Pro 2010 on El Capitan Sim City 4 still remains one of my favorite games and is the only game on this ancient Mac of mine. As you didn't specify what iMac you actually have, I can't really give a yes or no answer.
The Sims 4 is also coming to PS4 / Xbox One in November. So if you have one of those, and your computer can't meet the min requirements online, i'd hold off buying it for mac, since you can't return PC games like you can for console.
